Michael Stewart Obituary
Michael P. Stewart Sr., 65, of Latrobe, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Latrobe, a son of the late Harold W. Sr. and Alice I. Berkmyer Stewart. He had retired in 1993 from Peoples Natural Gas with 37 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Church and its Holy Name Society, Union Local 666, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of Latrobe Area High School, Class of 1954. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert M. and B. Isabelle Stewart. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca A. ``Becky' Short Stewart of Latrobe; four sons, Michael Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Latrobe, Leo and his wife, Kathy, of Greensburg, James and his wife, Leslie, of Latrobe, and Donald and his wife, Robin, of Latrobe; two daughters, Paula M. Piper and her husband, ``Welty' Tom, of Greensburg, and Teresa Moore and her husband, Mark, of Derry Township; three brothers, Harold W. Jr. and his wife, Esther, of Latrobe RD2, Ernest D. and his wife, Marge, of Latrobe, and Leroy and his wife, Theresa, of Gettysburg; three sisters, Leonora Farley of New Haven, Conn., Alice Osborne of Latrobe, and Barbara Bridge and her husband, Edward, of Latrobe; a sister-in-law, Dolores Stewart of Latrobe; 13 grandchildren, Paul and Faith Piper, Jessica and Ronnie Moore, Michael III and Jason Stewart, Emily and Andrew Stewart, Alyssa Stewart, Jacob and Nicholas Stewart, and Tommy and Katie McKee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Unity Township. The Holy Family Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home; American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414 will hold military services Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home. Members of Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department will hold services Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
