Paul Warhola Obituary

Paul Warhola, 91, of West Homestead, passed peacefully Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, 2014. He is survived by Anna, his wife and life partner of more than 71 wonderful years. Together they raised seven kids, Paul (Lorene), Eve (Thomas), Marylou (Ron), George (Maria), James, Madalen (Don) and Martin (Helen). They will all miss him dearly. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Paul became a self-made man who grew up during the difficult Depression. He was the first son of Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants, the late Ondrej and Julia (Zavacky) Warhola. He was a World War II veteran of the Navy. He educated himself in many, many areas, but mainly he built two successful scrap businesses on the North Side of Pittsburgh and in Elizabeth. Paul had a lifelong love of art. His unique entrepreneurial and creative spirit had a strong influence on his kid brother, who later became the world famous artist, Andy Warhol. Paul was also known for his "Chicken Feet" paintings along with his Absolut Vodka ad of 1990. Andy passed away in 1987 and his other younger brother, John, passed away in 2010. The viewing will be held 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at WM. SKOVRANKO MEMORIAL HOME, Richford at Commonwealth avenues, Duquesne, PA 15110. Divine Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in St. John the Baptist Cathedral. Burial will be Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in Mt. Macrina Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Uniontown. All are welcome to attend. Arrangements by ELMER L. HERMAN FUNERAL HOME, John N. Bauer-Director, Pittsburgh. http://www.elmerhermanfuneralhome.com.
