Ronald Starry Obituary

Ronald L. (Rock) Starry, 79, of New Alexandria (Salemville), entered a new life with our Lord surrounded by his loving family at home Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Salemville, son of the late Joe and Irene (Campbell) Starry. He was a drummer since the age of 11 for many local bands (Riggy LaVelle and The Gene Peterson Trio). Ron graduated from Greensburg Salem High School in 1959 and retired from the Elliott Company with 45 years of service. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the St. James Parish in New Alexandria. His passion for Buicks and Cadillacs led to him opening Starry's Auto Sales in 1976. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America as well as the Buick Club of America. He was also a lifetime member of the Salemville Ukrainian Club. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald Le, and two brothers, Joseph and Dennis. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen (Newhouse) Starry; his children, Douglas (Dana) Starry, Susan Starry, Jerry Starry and Ronald Starry Jr. (all from New Alexandria); and three grandchildren, Douglas (Chelsie) Starry Jr., Daniel Starry and Lauren Starry; his great-grandchildren, Callie and Chloe Starry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2021, at P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 215 Church St., New Alexandria, PA 15670, 724-668-2248. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, in St. James Roman Catholic Church, New Alexandria, with Father Tyler J. Bandura as celebrant. Burial will follow in Twin-Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Visit www.NewhouseFuneralHome.com.

All us girls from the Tobacco Outlet in New Alexandria will miss Mr. Starry so much. He would come in smoke a cigarette and talk to us about cars. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family during this difficult time. He surely will be missed.

Nice guy and a valued member of the Buick Club of America. He always had some amazing cars. Without any prior arrangements to meet, he and I would always stumble upon each other in the most unsuspecting places at the Hershey, PA. car meet each October, for years and years. I could always count on a welcoming smile, a story about a car, and that ever-present cigarette with Ron! He and his friendship will be missed. My condolences to his family.

I will always remember the car show stories and Rock’s drummer day stories that Rock would share with me on our yearly car trip to Hershey. Rock, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories.
