Russell Bernd Obituary

Russell James "Jim" Bernd Jr., 84, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He was born on June 24, 1941, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Russell Sr. and Helen (Matzus) Bernd. Jim was Catholic by faith and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg. He was a proud army veteran, having served in the 101st Airborne Division. Prior to retirement, Jim worked as a machinist for the Union Railroad Company. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Sneary) Bernd; his children, Russell Bernd III and his wife, Jamie, of Greensburg, Angela Piper and her husband, Bryan, of Derry, and Rebecca Hugus and her husband, John, of South Greensburg; his beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Bernd, Devin Bernd, Riley Bernd, Jennifer Bernd (Mitchell Cochran), James Hugus, and Jacob Hugus; and his great-granddaughter, Eloise. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Terry Bernd and his wife, Patricia, of Monroeville, and David Bernd, of Pittsburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Adam Bernd; and his siblings, Jerome Bernd, Gary Bernd, and Theresa Castro. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Our Lady of Grace Church, 1011 Mt. Pleasant Road, Greensburg. Inurnment will follow in Saint Clair Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Armbrust Veteran's Association. Personalized funeral arrangements are entrusted to the C. RICHARD MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 101 S. Fourth St., Youngwood.
