Russell J. Poole

1951 - 2021

Russell J. Poole, of Jeannette, went to be with family and friends in heaven, Thursday, July 9, 2021. His mother, Minnie Croushore Poole, and dad, Russell W. Poole, were waiting to embrace him. Russ was a great guy with diverse interests. As a young boy, he joined Cub Scouts and worked his way up to Eagle Scout. He also belonged to Order of the Arrow. Russ spent many years on staff at Camp Conestoga, and upon graduation from West Virginia University, he was district executive for the George Washington Council, New Jersey. He loved helping and teaching people. Family and friends would call him to identify plants and critters. He was like a walking encyclopedia. Russ was a Zoo enthusiast, a leader, gardener, wood craftsman, carer of wildlife, fisherman and an all-around great example of humankind. The world is a better place because he was a part of it. Prior to retirement, he was employed by UPS and he was a member of Norwin Lions Club.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lynn Waugaman; and a nephew, Robert Russell Poole. He is survived by his wife, Denise Flowers Poole; his siblings, Gary Poole and his wife, Pam, of Connellsville, Debbie Waugaman, of Scotia, N.Y., and Wendy Poole and her wife, Heather Allison, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, PA 15644. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home with Rev. Craig T. Hess officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
