Samuel Off Obituary

Samuel W. Off Jr., Ligonier craftsman and artist and husband of Barbara Childs Off, died Monday, April 17, 2023, of acute myeloid leukemia. He was 75. Sam was a pewtersmith who crafted unique designs prized by organizations as emblems of membership and accomplishment. He employed his artistic ability and his knowledge of his customers to create highly individualized pieces. His craftsmanship was also expressed in his constant work on the home he shared with Bobbie, his beloved wife of 33 years. His care of the house and fields were his constant gift to her. Sam was an avid shooter, skilled at trap and sporting clays. He especially prized the custom-made Berretta shotgun that served him for many years. Sam was born Dec. 19, 1947, the son of Samuel and Mary Hays Off, known as "Molly." He attended Avon Old Farms School and Curry College. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his sister, Susan Stringer and Susan's daughter, Melonie Burgess. In accordance with Sam's wishes, there will be no memorial service. If you wish to make a gift in his memory, please consider Wildlife Works Inc., in Youngwood. All arrangements have been entrusted to the SNYDER-GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 402 E. Church St., Ligonier, PA 15658.
