Shirley Novak Obituary

Shirley L. Novak, 77, of Smithton (South Huntingdon Township), died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Borough. She was born May 16, 1936, in Mendon, the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Sherbondy Mencer. Shirley was a member of Bible Alliance Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Novak; and a son, Dean Novak. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Novak and wife, Vicki, of Smithton, and Scott Novak and wife, LeAnn, of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kristi Novak and Joel and Jason Morgan; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Mencer and wife, Pat, of West Newton; and constant companion Howard "Whitey" Anderson. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second Street, Smithton. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bible Alliance Church, 1300 Mt. Pleasant Road, West Newton 15089, with Pastor Frank Todaro officiating. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
