Reverend Silas West ran into the open arms of his Lord and savior on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025. Rev. West hand-built his three-story home in 1956 and worked many jobs to support his family, including being a radio announcer at WAVL, a teacher at Laurel Elementary, and a traveling evangelist as far as southern Canada and through most of the eastern U.S., and he was the pastor of Apollo Faith Chapel for 60 years until his retirement in 2017. His desire to spread the gospel message led him to go on many work crusades to foreign mission fields. As an evangelist, he realized the plight of the elderly and founded, owned, and operated the West Haven Nursing Home and the West View Manor Personal Care Home from 1974 to 2008. He honored his Lord by showing a genuine concern for the spiritual well-being of each person he had contact with. His heart's desire was to have his life direct others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:21 For me to live is Christ, to die is gain. Rev. West had many loved ones to welcome him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry S. and Alice Pearl (Grey) West; his wife, Betty J. (Morrison) West; his sisters, Alice (Cecil) Clifton and Roxie Cadamore; and his brothers, Rev. Andrew Jack and Prudie West, Rev. Paul and Shirley West, and Rev. H. Blaine and Elaine West. Rev. West is survived by his children, Randy (Peggy) West of Dayton, PA, Gail (Larry) Roberts of Apollo, Sylvia (Dennis) Smith of Dayton, Noel West of Dayton, and Lisa (James) Porter of Swissvale, PA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, in CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 100 Owens View Avenue, Apollo. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, in the funeral home, with R. Silas West Jr. officiating. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rev. West's name to The Gideons International,
