Stephen J. "Bud" Stas Jr., 68, of Jeannette, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at his residence. Born Aug. 28, 1949, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Stephen J. Stas Sr. and Anna C. (Hannak) Stas. Stephen was a member of Ascension Roman Catholic Church, Jeannette, and volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul of Jeannette. He was a 1967 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School and studied at St. Vincent College and California University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business marketing. He also held an associate degree in business management from Westmoreland County Community College. A licensed Realtor, he had been employed by Howard Hanna. He was a longtime officer for the Hostetter Jednota branch and enjoyed traveling and going to Pittsburgh Pirates games. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecilia A. Kissel; a brother, James Stas; and a niece, Samantha Stas. Stephen is survived by two grandchildren, Athanasia and Sahara Kissel; three brothers, Nicholas Stas and his wife, Nancy, of Billings, Mont., Michael Stas and his wife, Debra, of Latrobe, and William Stas and his wife, Elaine, of Unity Township; two sisters, Mary Ann Dunlap and her husband, James, of Hostetter, and Susan Troung, of Jeannette; his uncles and aunts, Mary Hannak, John "Jumbo" Stas, and Theresa Stas, all of Unity Township, and Joseph Dlugos, of Mammoth; and he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no public visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Ascension Church, 615 Division St., Jeannette, PA 15644, with the Rev. Paul A. Lisik as celebrant. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
