Steven E. "Coach" Snider, 72, of Hempfield Township, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at Excela Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 11, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Martha (Mullenix) Snider. Steve was an educator who taught at Greensburg Salem School District for 36 years and Trinity Christian School for five years. He also coached for 50 years, 12 years of which was coaching at Saint Vincent College. Steve loved his family and going on some wonderful vacations. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's activities, especially running. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Woods Snider; loving sons, Matthew (wife Megan) and Nathan Snider; cherished grandchildren, Julia and Luke Snider; brothers, Michael and David (wife Cindy) Snider; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, John and Constance Wilson and Frank Woods; nieces and nephews, Rachel (husband Kevin) Ketchman, Joshua (wife Melissa) Woods, Jason Snider and Christa (husband Walter) Mason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Frank and Willavene Woods. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the doctors and nurses that we were blessed to have care for Steve. A special thanks to Dr. James Adisey, Dr. Craig Alpert and all their staff. Without these caring people, we would not have had the privilege of enjoying Steve these last years. There are no words to express the loss we are feeling, but we rejoice that Steve has now passed into glory. My sister, Amy Kinney Mangelsdorf, went out for the 1983 spring track team. She told me I should run too as the Coach, Steve Snider, was a wonderful person. Amy was right! Coach Snider was kind, caring and supportive of all his runners. He made running practice fun and we felt healthy and great in his inspiring presence. I am so sorry for his loss and send my sympathy to Coach Snider's family. Thank you, Coach Snider, for everything. You were a blessing in mine, Amy's and our families' lives.

Mr. Snider was my Phys Ed Teacher in 1972-73 in grade school. Polite, caring, and always smiling. Just a really good person who loved his job, kids, and life.

Truly a sad day for Greensburg. Coach Snider took me in my freshman year and told me that I was going to run cross country and I had no idea what that was and here I look back over 20 years later and his ideas discipline and dedication truly helped develop who I am today. "It´s not the size of the lion in the fight but the fight in the lion". Helped me on many deployments and overseas assignments to mention Being in the military on the physical side was easy based off of all of the hard distance runs that we would do. Thank you Coach for the life lessons you taught me and the competitive spirit you put on all of us. RIP Until we run again.

I know this is a sad time, however, it is also a time to rejoice: Coach Snider loves our Lord Jesus, and his faith is now sight! Like the moon reflects the sun's light, the Coach I knew glorified the Lord in reflecting the Lord's love!!! As a high-schooler, I remember Coach letting me know drinking milk was the worst thing for an upset stomach. I started running because Coach Snider told me if I wanted to lose weight for wrestling, I should run, even in winter, in shorts and a t-shirt! I eventually joined the GSHS Cross Country team, and dropped wrestling (and stopped losing wrestling weight/muscle, which was probably for the best)! So many great memories basking in his holiness!!! I am such a better person for knowing Coach, and trying to follow in his footsteps in my faith walk!!! In Christ, Bob and Claire Bolha and Family

Mr. Snider impacted my life in so many ways when he helped me train for the FBI Academy. He blessed my life with support and encouragement on and off the track. I am a better professional and man for having known him. May God Bless him and his family for the many ways God's light shined through him.+

Coach,
You were an true inspiration in my life. Calling you just a mentor, doesn´t do you justice. I looked up to you like a father figure. I still find myself telling my children and others, "It´s a beautiful day!" God Bless you and your family. Rest well coach. I look forward to seeing you again someday.

Love ,
Tiny

Deb, Matthew and Nathan...my heartfelt sympathy to each of you...words cannot describe what Steve meant to me and the many lives he touched...first a teacher, then a coach and then a forever friend. Steve was a mentor and such a positive influence in my life. Someone that I will never forget and such fond memories to hang onto. Loved that man!
