Suzanne Burkus Obituary

Suzanne "Sue" Burkus, 63, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018, after losing a battle to cancer. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sue was a fighting inspiration to her family and friends. She was born in Mt. Pleasant on Aug. 28, 1954, to John and Rose Kowalczyk. She is survived by her husband John of 42 years; two children, Melissa (wife Katherine) and John "Butch"; two grandchildren, Elliott and Avery; siblings, John Kowalczyk (Linda), Barbara Shaffer (Robert) and Marilyn Forbes (Jack); and a number of nieces and nephews. Sue was a champion when it came to people. She knew everyone and everyone knew her. Her friendly smile and demeanor would light up a room. Her hobby was not a secret: she loved to travel to Atlantic City with John. She enjoyed gardening and sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee. She had a love for Pittsburgh sports and spent many Saturdays down at Pitt football games, hanging with friends and tailgating. There was never a dull moment with Sue Burkus. Her love and laughter will live on forever. She will be so dearly missed.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE, 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a reception at Mt. Pleasant Fireman's Club.
Please visit Sue's online memorial at www.saloom-rega.com to sign the condolence guestbook. Richard Rega, funeral director.

Kowalczyk and Burkus Family,

I am very sad to hear of the news of Suzanne's passing. I wish I could have attended her service but the distance and a new job kept me from being able to attend. My heart, however, has been with all of you since the moment I heard the news. I have many, very dear, fond memories of the Kowalczyk family. I loved your parents and had so much fun with all of you at your house, reunions, and some of the best weddings I've ever attended in my life. Suzanne was always so kind to us, so happy and fun, filled with life and no matter how long it had been since we last saw each other, she made it feel like it was yesterday. I can't imagine the loss you all must be feeling with the void she leaves. Also, I can only imagine how she touched your lives and left her spirit in all of you. Please know we are always family no matter how many years or miles are between us. I will keep you in my heart and prayers. I know Suzanne is in heaven with our parents.
Sending you all a big warm virtual hug.
Love, your cousin and forever friend,
Patti Mehallick Friend
