Walter Buchinsky

Walter Buchinsky, 82, of Loyalhanna Township, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Sept. 8, 1921, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Victor and Helen Kowalewski Buchinsky. He lived in Loyalhanna Township most of his life. Prior to retirement in 1965, he worked as a coal miner for Hicks Coal Co., Brownstown Mine and Bowman Coal Co., and was a self-employed beef cattle farmer. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines. He was a member of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, Saltsburg, and the United Mine Workers of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Jon and Edward Buchinsky; and a grandson, Jason Baraniak, in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bertha Yargus Buchinsky; four daughters, Anna M. and husband, Donald Murphy, of Loyalhanna Township, Janet Baraniak, of Port St. Lucy, Fla., Bertha Fransisco, of Conemaugh Township, and Karen Buchinsky, of Loyalhanna Township; three sons, Robert Buchinsky and wife, Jackie, Walter T. Buchinsky and wife, Patti, and Michael Buchinsky and wife, Tammi, all of Loyalhanna Township; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olga Janoscrat, of New Alexandria, Helen Duffield, of Sagamore Heights, Ohio, and Stefie Buchinsky, of Saltsburg; a brother, Victor Buchinsky, of Black Lick; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, Saltsburg, with Father Peter Peretti as celebrant. Interment in St. Matthew Cemetery, Saltsburg.
