You loved the Marx Brothers and their wit! You laughed when a child came into the ER and said that she puts animals crackers in her soup. You told her that she must have been watching the Marx Brothers movies!!!

I worked on former 2B, steady daylight, McKeesport Hospital, when he was a resident.
He was a big NY Mets fan; I was a big Pgh Pirates fan.
We got to talking a lot, because of that.
I invited him to a Pirates/Mets game at Three Rivers, then.

I remember also, seeing him, the few years he, worked in the hospital ER, when I was steady nights.

During that time, I told him how my Mom was dying in 1988-89.

I know he left the hospital went to Monsour; also, Mon Valley, I believe, before setting up his own practice with his friend, Joe Mollura.

Last I saw him was at his friend's wake; he remembered me, we spoke, nicely.

I feel bad that he passed so soon, and, so young, yet.

My condolences to his Son, and, family.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Your friends from New York City would send you the Black and White cookies that you would bring in every Christmas season. We would say to you, you only live once. You would say YOU LIVE EVERY DAY AND DIE ONLY ONCE!!! What words of wisdom!!!

Thanks for introducing us to the St Joseph's Day Cavazunes!
We never knew that chickpeas could make such delicious cookies! You were always teaching us things about the medical field and Italian food and last but not least New York City! You always endorsed growing and blooming where God puts you! You certainly grew & blossomed in PA! Now you're planted in our local cemetery and we'll still visit you Sweet William!!!

Thanks for the delicious food that you used to bring into the ER when you worked with us! We enjoyed the pizzelles at Christmas time! The St Joseph's Day treats were tasty too. We brought in treats for your birthday in March along with St Patrick's Day food! You really knew how to help others and live it up!!!

You were always entertaining us with trivia about New York City and people who were born there. On November 23 you reminded us that Harpo Marx & Billy the Kid were born that day in NYC. Your mind was so engaging & in perpetual motion!

Conforti means comfort in Italian! You comforted many people in your lifetime from physical & mental & emotional pain. Your humor was like that of Patch Adams! You were unlike any physician that I ever knew! You could naturally tell when someone was in pain down to the marrow and when someone was in pain down to their soul! There will never be another one like you our friend!!!

I was shopping this weekend for 4th of July decorations. I saw a Statue of Liberty decoration and told the store that the amount of spikes in her crown was incorrect. Because of you we know that she has 7 spikes for the 7 seas and 7 continents! You were always teaching us things. You were our Sweet William who always bloomed where you were planted. Your roots grew well in Pennsylvania and Florida! You touched more lives than your family will ever know!!!

On the 4th of July you would remind us that New York City got the Statue of Liberty in 1884. You also told us that she has 7 spikes in her crown for the 7 seas and 7 continents of the world!!! You were so proud of the city that welcomed the biggest volume of immigrants to our country.
The people of Pennsylvania were only too happy to welcome you to our state Sweet William. It was probably with mixed emotions that the immigrants left their homeland but made a better life in the United States. It was probably with mixed emotions that you left NYC. I'm not sure if you had a better life in PA but you made our lives better here in PA!!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY in Heaven!
You were an all American boy from the Big Apple! You were as American as apple pie! You loved being an American and all of the people in America! We often asked if you missed New York City and you replied that Pennsylvania is your new home and you could always go back for a visit. But we knew in our heart that you many times missed the City That Never Sleeps!!! But I must say that Pittsburgh has it's share of excitement for those of us who was born here and never visited New York City. NYC really stuck together and got back on it's feet after September 11. No wonder you were so proud of being a native New Yorker just like the song!!!

I'll never forget your constant kidding around at the hospital. One day during lunch time you said that you were going out to eat! And you did. You stepped outside and ate a candy bar!!! You could have been a comedian easily. It would have been pure profit! You wouldn't have even had to pay a script writer! As you always said: LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE. IT HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS OR COPAYS. IT'S 100 PERCENT FREE!!!

You were happy to have met Jackie Gleason years ago! He was another New Yorker who made your city proud. Actually when we think back on your humor you took on certain traits from the Stooges and Marx Brothers and Jackie Gleason etc etc. Your greatest medical hero was Dr Jonas Salk who came to the Pittsburgh area and you made mention of him always! He & Dr Starzl and Dr Fu were famous names in Allegheny County but you were one of the best in Westmoreland County. Thanks for making Western Pennsylvania a better place due to your medical knowledge and humor and genuine concern! You gave your patients spiritual guidance too by praying for them and offering them a rosary or scapular or medal or mantilla for the older ladies who still wear one to Mass. You never lost your Catholic values and tried to heal everyone in your path just like Jesus! Your family really needs to be proud of you!!!

When you used to sing the Stooge's songs we used to sing back to you The Boy from New York City! You really had a way with people and your patients. You were like Patch Adams who made the patients laugh and sometimes used humor as your medicine! You may have seemed unusual to some people but being yourself was your usual demeanor!!!

See you in Heaven!

We compared you to Jonas Salk who was born in New York City and came to Western Pennsylvania to help others. He did his research in Pittsburgh PA and changed the lives of countless millions! Although you may have not touched millions of people you certainly changed the lives of countless patients in the medical field and even in the general public with your never ending humor and kindness and generosity. You touched more lives than what you realized!
England will one day have a King William but Pennsylvania had a William who was the King of comedy!

On a 4th of July you put five fingers from one hand behind my head and 2 from the other. In all there were 7 fingers behind my head! You then said "Now you look like the Statue of Liberty!" Like a true New Yorker, you were always keeping New York City in the back of your mind!!!

We called you Dr Confetti because you were all over the place! You were always moving about talking to everyone that was in your path. No one was a stranger to you. We would ask how can you just walk up to perfect strangers and talk. You responded with I only talk to imperfect strangers because we're all imperfect. There's no perfect person except Jesus.
You were such an inspiration to us! We'll never get over you!!!

Bill and I go back nearly 40 years from our early career days at Monsour Medical Center. Bill was constant laughs, and smiles. He was and always will be one of my best `buds“ from those days. He was Dean Martin reincarnated for sure. Classy and stylish. I am heartbroken at this news. I can only imagine what you and Joe Mollura (another great guy) are up to in heaven. I can only hope to meet you again. My deepest sympathies to Jody and your family. You left much too soon

Jody,

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear husband.

It is hard for us to comprehend what has happened but the only way to truly survive is to trust in our heavenly Father to guide us. Bill already knew the way to heaven and set such an example to his family.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

God will provide and send you many blessings for your service.

Much love,

Dr Conforti

We discussed the similarities between the Italian and Jewish people because of our commonalities! We're both from New York and saw the beautiful sights and people of New York. As we agreed many times both heritages are family oriented and have a lot of the same physical appearances. We both love family and friends and food and fun! Numerous people have even told us that we are natural medicine for laughter!
You were paid to be a doctor but threw in the laughter for free!!!
