Aimee Cupelli Obituary

Aimee Sobbott Cupelli, 96, of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully with family at her side Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph R. Cupelli; her parents, Paul and Clotilde Sobbott; and her brother, Paul Lecour Sobbott. Aimee was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., but was raised in various Eastern cities because of her father's jobs with the Erie Railroad. She graduated from Scranton Central High School where she was the senior class vice-president and co-captain of the girls' basketball team. She attended Keystone Junior College where she was president of the Keystone Women's Organization, co-captain of the women's basketball team, performed in theater productions and was crowned the 1940 May Queen. She then attended Penn State where she graduated with a degree in journalism. It was there that she met her future husband. During World War II, she worked in the promotions department at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Shortly after the war ended, she married Ralph Cupelli, and together they had five children. After the youngest of her children started grade school, Aimee went to the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a master's degree in education. She taught for nearly 20 years at Colfax Elementary in Springdale. In retirement, Aimee enjoyed golf, bowling, cross-country skiing, travel and tending to her flower gardens. She also enjoyed making stained glass pieces and various arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aimee is survived by her children, Ralph (Suzanne), Louise, David (Vicky), Ann (Jackson) and Robert; her three grandchildren, Aimee (John), Nicholas and Kaitlyn; and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Isaac and Lucy. She is also survived by her wonderful sisters-in-law, Sarah (John) Kauper and Julia (James) Dunstan; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her home helpers of the last few years, Irene, Carol, Yvonne and Sandy. Aimee was a gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humor and wit, something that will be missed but remembered by all who knew her.
Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Verona. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville, next to her husband.
Donations may be made in her name to the VA Aspinwall, 1010 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215.

Dear Family Members and Friends,

This is my third attempt to write this. If it doesn't go through tonight, I will try tomorrow. Aimee, I'm a plugger, too.

Dear Family Members and Friends,

This is my second attempt to write this. I hope this goes through this time.

Aimee was special.

She was a friend and good neighbor to me.

Since our properties adjoined, I got to see and appreciate the beautiful gardens and landscaping. She gave me cuttings to plant and let me pick some of her spectacular flowers.

She was a good cook and didn't like to make the same things all the time.

She was generous in sharing recipes. Not only would she give me a copy of the recipe, but she would also give me a sampling of the actual dish to taste. However, when I would make the same dish, Les would say it's good, but it's not good as Aimee's.

She was organized and could pull up specific recipes very easily when needed.

She was creative and made beautiful craft stained glass items which she often would give away when someone would admire one of them. I was the recipient of her generosity.

One day I asked Ralph how did she find the time to do all she does, and he replied that she's a plugger. She was the best! I will misss her very much.

I hope she rests in peace and is in the arms of the angels, along with Ralph.

My deepest sympathy for your loss.

Love,

November 30, 2017

May the prayers and expression of care from friends and family give you much comfort. Galatians 5: 22. My sincere condolences.
