Alice M. Chieffalo, 86, of Vandergrift, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at home. Born April 2, 1926, in Broughton, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Vito Donghia and Marta (Tinelli) Donghia. Alice lived in Vandergrift all of her life, and worked for a time at Schenley Distilleries. She was a 1944 graduate of Vandergrift High School, and parishioner of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. Alice was very generous with her time and talents. She was an exceptional cook and took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family, friends and neighbors. An all-around sports fan, she especially enjoyed following the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. Keeping up with current events and politics was a passion of hers. She was also an avid dog lover. Alice was devoted to her family and friends. She opened her heart and her home to anyone who needed her. Alice's smile, stories, laughter and vibrant personality will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Paul Frank Chieffalo, who passed away April 29, 1988; brothers, Frank and Tony Donghia; brother-in-law, Frank Amaranto; and sister-in-law, Nancy Lee Donghia. She is survived by her son, Jerry P. (Bernadette) Chieffalo, of Easton, Conn.; brothers, Paul Donghia, of West Vandergrift, and Charlie Donghia, of Kepple Hill; sister, Mary Amaranto, of West Vandergrift; sisters-in-law, Josephine Donghia, of West Vandergrift, and Nina Sindlinger-Donghia, of Linesville; and many loving nieces, nephews and cherished friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant.
