Andrew C. Pieples

Andrew C. "Andy" Pieples, 91, of Vandergrift, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, in AHN Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born Feb. 4, 1931, in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Guiseppi Piepoli and Antoinette (Notarnicola) Piepoli. Andy was a 1949 graduate of Vandergrift High School and proudly served our country with the Army during the Korean War. He was a manager at Leechburg Auto Parts for many years, and from 1973-2012 was the owner/operator of Lofti Softi Ice Cream Shop in Vandergrift. Andy was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, the VFW Post No. 566, and the Bari Club, all in Vandergrift. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Steelers and Pirates, and was the manager of the Dapper Dan's Softball Team. In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Konopka, who passed away on May 31, 2013; siblings, Alfred, Lena and Joseph Pieples; and a brother-in-law, Rocky Flaminio. Andy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jennie E. (Trisoline) Pieples; son, Jeffrey Pieples, of Vandergrift; daughter, Toni Marie (Rick Chiodo) Pieples, of Penn Township; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Konopka, of Penn Township; siblings, Liz Flaminio, Thomas (Charlotte) Pieples, Bernice "Chicky" (Chuck Cornely) McCutcheon; sister-in-law, Gloria Pieples; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB as celebrant. Following the Mass, military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. Private interment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, will take place at the convenience of the family.
