Anthony V. Arvay

1935 - 2016

Anthony V. Arvay, 81, of Lower Burrell, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, in UPMC St. Margaret, Pittsburgh. He was born in Natrona (Ducktown) on July 1, 1935, and was the last surviving sibling of the 14 children of the late George and Mary Andrejcik Arvay, and was a lifelong resident of the local area. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage. Mr. Arvay attended the First United Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, and worked as a pipe fitter for Gulf Research and had also worked for Shadyside Academy. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking bread and was well known for his Easter bread and Friday night French fries. He was an avid hunter and fan of Pittsburgh sports teams but above all, his number one priority was spending time with his family. His great sense of humor and mastery of one-liners will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Malvene Geiser Arvay; two daughters, Cheryl Arvay, of Natrona Heights, Antoinette (Jeff) Lipniskis, of Sarver; two stepsons, Richard (Jeannie) Lippert, Chad (Jodi) Lippert, both of Lower Burrell; and seven grandchildren, Sarah Lipniskis, Jake and Matthew Arvay, Brady, Austin, Mackenzie and Taylor Lippert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sisters, Fran Glodowski, Mary Wesoloski, Ann Mazur, Marge Famurak, Helen Napierkowski, Berta Modzelewski, Betty, Gizela and Jozefina Arvay; and brothers, Steve, John, Andy and Joe Arvay.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the First United Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, officiated by the Rev. Philip Beck. Everyone is asked to meet at church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
