Betty J. Shaheen

Betty J. Shaheen, 99, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Anniston, AL, to the late Maxine Matheny and John Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Shaheen, in 1994. Betty leaves behind two daughters, who were the love of her life, Sandra Shaheen and Cheryl (James) Drozynski. Betty met John Shaheen in Anniston, AL, at a Fort McClellan dance. They married and then moved to New Kensington, where they raised their two daughters. She belonged to St. George Orthodox Church and was a member of the women's Myrrh Bearing. She loved working at the church preparing food, bowling, playing cards with her friends, the casino, and trips to Wildwood with other couples, Atlantic City, and Vegas. She adored all her dogs, Tofu, Amelio, and Jia Li. Her smile lit up a room, she loved everyone, and everyone loved her. Her kindness and Southern charm were radiant. Our hearts are filled with sadness, and she will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Betty Shaheen. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. (Trisagion Prayers begin at 5:30 p.m.) on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, at RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. The Orthodox funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, in St. George Orthodox Church, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068. Please meet at the church.
