Boyd Baker Obituary

Boyd E. Baker, 85, of South Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. Boyd was born March 19, 1936, in Apollo, a son of the late Cleo Myrtle (Swank) and Schuyler Lloyd Baker. He was a 1954 graduate of Apollo High School. Boyd held various jobs after high school and then entered the tool & die trade. He was employed at Oberg Industries for 30 years. He started as a machinist and ended his career in the shipping and receiving department. Boyd retired in 1999. Throughout all his years, he always worked and loved his family farm. He farmed and raised beef cattle for more than 64 years. Boyd was a social member of the South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, where he was continually active with the fire hall events and put in many hours to help restore the fire hall's original antique fire engine. He volunteered with the Kittanning Food Bank. Boyd enjoyed working on old cars and was a member of the Kit-Han-Ne Car Club. He enjoyed woodworking and would make wooden toys for children when spending his winters in Florida. Boyd was a member of the First Church of God in Kittanning. He served in the Army as a military police officer. Boyd is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patty R. (Rumbaugh) Baker; his children, Kevin E. Baker, of Marienville, Karen L. and Joseph Zambotti Jr., of Kittanning, and Dave K. Baker and Mary Weyer, of Plum Creek Township; his grandchildren, Nicole and Cliff Barton, Joseph and Nicole Zambotti III, Natalie and Tyler Cotherman, Kyle and Brianna Baker and Paige Baker; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke and Quinn Barton, Joey IV, Cole and Joselynn Zambotti and Cade and baby boy Cotherman due in February 2022. Boyd is also survived by three brothers, Thomas Baker and Suzanne Pahls, of The Villages, Fla., Merle and Carol Baker, of Jeanette, and Gerald and Marleen Baker, of Madison, Wis. At Boyd's request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at First Church of God, 13374 Route 422, Kittanning, with Pastor Nick Wilson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, 382 Iron Bridge Road, Freeport, PA 16229, or First Church of God,13374 US Route 422, Kittanning, PA 16201. Boyd was always as nice as any one person could be. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. We wish we could be with everyone at his service on Sunday. Do know that the entire Baker family is in our prayers. Love to all.
