Charles Boyer Obituary

Charles Dean Boyer, 85, of Natrona Heights, ended his journey on earth Thursday, March 8, 2012, at home with his beloved family at his side. He was born Jan. 21, 1927, in New Kensington, the son of the late Lawrence and Marilla Schrecengost Boyer. Charles graduated from New Ken High School in 1944, and attended California State Teacher's College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army from 1944 to 1946, stationed in Paris, France. Charles retired after 40 years of service from Allegheny Ludlum Research Center in Natrona Heights, where he developed several patents for steel coatings. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Natrona Heights, VFW Post 894 in Natrona Heights, Tarentum VFW Chorus, Brackenridge Heights Contry Club for 40 years and the Thursday morning breakfast club at Eat-n-Park. Charles enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events, raising flowers, especially hibicus, traveling, watching all sports on TV and helped with B&J Little League, where he is still called G.M. by former coaches and players from that time. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Swain Boyer; children, Greg (Cathy) Boyer, of Allegheny Township, and Amy (Steve) Meanor, of Natrona Heights; grandchildren, T.J. (Susie) Meanor, of Dinnwiddie, Va., Chad Meanor (fiancee Jackie Orris), of New Kensington, and Sarah Boyer, of Allegheny Township; great-granddaughter, Audrey Meanor; his sister, Helen (Albert) Himes, of New Kensington; and his beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son in infancy, Kevin Patrick Boyer; and his brothers, the Rev. Dale (Grace) Boyer and Wayne (Gerry) Boyer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Officiating will be the Rev. R. Cameron Malcolm IV. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Charles may be made to the Citizens Hose Ambulance Service, 965 Burtner Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 or Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
