Daniel Mele Obituary

Daniel M. Mele Jr., 82, of New Kensington, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell. He was born Sept. 15, 1931, in New Kensington, a son of the late Donato and Josephine (Caputo) Mele. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Ewing) Mele in 1987; a son, Alan Mele in 1996; and two brothers, Dominic and Loreto Mele. Mr. Mele was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, in New Kensington, the Holy Name, Ushers Club and Men's Bowling League, all with the church. He was a teacher/principal for the New Kensington-Arnold School District for 30 years and was timekeeper for all Valley High School sports for more than 25 years. Mr. Mele enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking and always thought that he had the best tomatoes in town. Always quick with a joke, he had a great sense of humor. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in New Kensington. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Faye M. (McClain) Gardlock Mele; sons, Daniel (Janet) Mele III, of Philadelphia, David (Debbie) Mele, of New Mexico, and Jim (Becky) Gardlock, of New Kensington; daughters, Janet (Larry) Luneau, of Philadelphia, Pat Crivaro, of Arnold, Pam (Alan) Semego, of Freeport, and Nancy Campana, of Florida; daughter-in-law, Maria Mele; sister, Marry Ann (Dennis) Huet, of New Kensington; 18 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in the GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC., 1509 5th Ave., Arnold, PA 15068, JohnPaul Bertucci, owner, supervisor. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Everyone please meet at the church. Burial will be private.
