Mr. Jura arrived at Birdville School to teach music in the fall of '69. We, as 6th graders, found him to be the ultra "cool" teacher by admiring his glittering 1960 Corvette, staying after school to play football with us guys, and his unique lesson plans. He would have us students bring in our favorite records, listen to them, then critique the lyrics, song mood and any unusual musical passages. He would also attempt to teach us piano chords, telling us "in five years or so, you people will be going to parties and such, and these simple piano chords will prevent you from being a wallflower." I hope todays children have a great teacher-student experience, such as we had in Mr. Jura

I wish to express my condolences to Dave´s family. We were school mates and great friends at the Duquesne School of Music
from 1965 until 1968, and shared the stage on many gigs. Nothing but wonderful memories of my time with Dave.
