Delia Greenacre Obituary

Delia D. "Del" Greenacre, 82, of Saltsburg, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. She was born Oct. 7, 1931, in Moween, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Flamino D'Angelo. She was a lover of history, especially the history of Saltsburg. Del was an original member of the Canal Committee and the charter member of Historic Saltsburg. Because of the hundreds of hours she spent researching the "Canal Project", Del is credited as one of the "founders" of the Historic District, as the Canal was placed on the National Inventory of Historic Places. She enjoyed gardening, music, reading and her beloved Penguins. She was a prolific writer, having authored a children's book, Mr. Buckleberry. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and friendly and happy demeanor. Del was the librarian in Saltsburg for more than four years and owned and operated the Curiosity Shop, also in Saltsburg. She is survived by three children, Olivia D. Deemer and her husband, Dan, of Indiana, Deborah Delfavero, of Saltsburg, and Joe Delfavero and his wife, Karen, of Bell Township; two grandchildren, Joe Deemer and his wife, Jen, of Pittsburgh, and Christopher Hazlett and his wife, Jen, of Huntersville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Paul, Henry, Ava and Mason; two sisters, Helen Pearson, of Saltsburg, and Florence Urban and her husband, Art, also of Saltsburg; two stepchildren, Cindy and John and his wife, Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leno Delfavero; her second husband, William T. Greenacre; a brother, Raymond D'Angelo; and a sister, Nicoletta Woodruff. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the funeral home with the Rev. Lota Jones officiating. Interment will follow in St. Matthews Church Cemetery, Saltsburg. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made in Dels name to the Indiana County Humane Society Inc., 65 Haven Drive, Indiana, PA 15701.
