Dennis Kunkle Obituary

Dennis "Lee" Kunkle Jr., 61, of Hempfield Township, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 28, 1964, in Portsmouth, VA, the son of the late Dennis L. Kunkle Sr. and Gail Pegg Kunkle. He was a member of South Greensburg United Methodist Church and sang in their choir. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dana Kunkle and Diane Jackson; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Irene Pegg; and paternal grandparents, George and Alice Kunkle. He is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Mary Ann (Mutnansky) Kunkle; two sons, Joshua Kunkle and Samuel Kunkle; two grandchildren, Jasiah and Nyla Kunkle; and his brother-in-law, Tim Jackson. One of Lee's greatest joys in life was helping other people out with their problems, issues, or concerns. He often made evening house calls. He was involved in his community and served on a number of boards and organizations, including the South Greensburg Council, South Greensburg Recreation Board, Greensburg Salem School Board, Greensburg-Hempfield Library Board, and the Westmoreland Co. Blind Association. He was past president of the South Greensburg Lions Club, past district governor of the Westmoreland County Lions Club, and vice president of the Lions of PA Foundation. He was named a Melvin Jones Fellow and presented with the PA Joseph Wroblewski Fellow. He was named Lion of the Year in 2005. Lee was heavily involved in the Republican Party, serving as a precinct committeeman, state committeeman, treasurer of the Republican County committee, and county executive board member. He served as county coordinator for Tom Ridge for Governor and Ron Castillo for Supreme Court. Governor Tom Ridge appointed him to the Judicial Advisory Commission in 1995. Lee was a devout Pitt fan and had season tickets to Pitt football and basketball for many years. He attended numerous college football bowl games and the Big East basketball tournament. There will be no public visitation, and all services are private. Private interment in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, is assisting with arrangements. www.bachafh.com
