Donald Olshansky Obituary

Donald Olshansky, 85, of Leechburg, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, in his residence. He was born March 3, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Saul Olshansky and Ida (Horwitz) Olshansky. Don graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1955 and from Slippery Rock University in 1961. For 32 years, he had been employed as a physical education teacher by the Leechburg Area School District before retiring in 1993. He was also a longtime, respected football coach for Leechburg Area High School. In the summertime, Don loved to spend time with his entire family at his camp in Marienville, which was appropriately named "The Big O." He was a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Leechburg Education Association, Slippery Rock Alumni Association and Roaring Run Trail organization. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Oldfield) Olshansky, of Leechburg; two sons, Michael Ray Olshansky, of Leechburg, and Daniel Olshansky (Dawn Pajerski), of Lower Burrell; two daughters, Marcia Carroll (Robert), of Leechburg, and Karen Lee Kalmar (Scott), of Gilpin Township; seven grandchildren, Tess Weber (Ryan), Brittany Brahm (Mathew), Ben Kalmar (Jackie), Angela Olshansky, Alex Kalmar, Julia Olshansky and Morgan Pajerski; and four great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooks Weber and Eli and Ella Brahm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Oshuns, Morris Oshuns and Harry Olschansky; a sister, Betty Bear; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Toby Oshuns. Friends will be welcomed by his family from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at CLAWSON FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTER, 170 Main St., Leechburg (724-842-1051), where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gilpin Township. Condolences to the Olshansky family may be offered at www.clawsonfuneralhome.com.

Sorry for your lost. Always had fond memories of Coach and gym classes when I was a student at Leechburg. I always appreciated the hard lessons he taught us that have lead to future success in life. He may be gone but not forgotten.

Coach "O" was a great coach. Like so many other players we have some great memories about him. I'm glad I talked to him on the phone last year. May Don , Rest In Peace ! Best wishes to the family too.
