Dear Family,
Dorothy was my Mom's first cousin; to me, she was was my "Aunt." It was a name of honor and respect. She was much loved.
As children, my sisters and I played with her children--David, Keith, Janet, and Kevin were our friends. Both Aunt Dorothy and her husband (our Uncle Paul) opened their home to us many times--their sled riding gatherings, in particular, were most memorable. They were occasions filled with joy and lots of fun.
As a teenager, I was lucky enough to have Aunt Dorothy as my Confirmation Sponsor. I felt that we had a special connection because of this. I was lead by her loving example, that's for sure.
As a young adult, my mom and I made arrangements to share meals with her at Eat n' Park. Mom and I liked her company. She could be serious or funny. We appreciated both sides of her personality. She was very personable.
Again, as a young adult, Aunt Dorothy did something that made and quite an impression on me. She took me to Penn State New Ken to see where she worked. This outing with her was enlightening. Her job was important. And she was quite dedicated to the position which she held there. That was obvious.
After she and Uncle Paul retired, they had time to travel to visit Janet and family in Massachusetts. During one of their adventures (traveling Interstate 80), they called me in advance of their arrival into a small town a few miles away from my home. The call alone "made my day." When they invited me to meet them for brunch and even, then, treat me to the meal with them, I was touched. Visitors are few and far between in this area. I saw two "hearts of gold" during that visit. We talked about it often when we saw each other in the years that followed.
I have only sweet memories of Aunt Dorothy. Blessings to her and her loving family.
