Edward Gorgas Obituary

Edward Joseph Gorgas, 71, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, after months of battling cancer in the company of his family. He was born on July 17, 1954, in Greensburg, the son of the late Edward and Susan (Chabak) Gorgas. Ed was a proud graduate of Hempfield Area High School Class of 1972. He attended Potomac State University and graduated from WCCC. He was employed at Super Value and as a Teamster for 43 years until his retirement. He was also a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Ed had an incredible personality and made friends easily, being known for his sense of humor. He was down to earth and easygoing able to make people feel welcome and at ease while finding the good in everyone. He naturally made people laugh. He was proud of his Polish/Slovak family heritage and loved sharing his stories about growing up with those roots. Ed was an avid football fan, whether it be high school, Penn State, or the Steelers. He enjoyed going out to eat at various restaurants, some new and some long-time favorites, and would have grilled hot dogs and burgers every day if Cindy had let him! Over the years, he made trips to the casinos to try his luck, unfortunately, often without the big win. Throughout the years, he found fishing to be a favorite pastime for relaxation and enjoyment. He was a fan of traveling to Mexico and going on cruises with Cindy and their friends. Ed had many names and titles, among which the fondest were loving husband, Dad, Eddie-Jo, and perhaps his favorite to be called: Pappy. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He loved spending time with them, from sleepovers to playdates to soccer games, school concerts, birthday parties, and holidays. His grandchildren will miss him immensely, and he will forever be a wonderful Pappy. Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia (Weber), his Cinderella; his children, Ian (Heather) Gorgas, of Derry, and their children, Trinity, Monroe, and Kinley; Casi, his princess, (Jason) Namestka, of Upper St. Clair, and their daughter, Liliana; and Philip (Vanessa his angel) Mangery, of Greensburg, and their children, Alden, his buddy, and Adeline, his little one. He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Harry) Bosley, of Greensburg, and their son, and Ed's godson, Adam (Natalie) Bosley, of North Huntingdon, and their children, Grayson and Giovanna; his sister-in-law, Stacie Matlas; and his favorite niece, Kayla (Travis). He is also survived by numerous cousins and several other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg. The family respectfully asks that everyone go directly to the church. Interment will follow at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank Redstone at Home staff for their compassion, support, and care during Ed's time with them under home health and hospice. www.bachafh.com
