Edward William Heinle Jr., 82, of Beaver, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 4, 1932, in Natrona Heights, to Edward W. Heinle, DDS, and Mary Purvis Heinle. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh summa cum laude and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating in 1958. During his internship year, he married Marie Cicone on Jan. 31, 1959. After his first year of residency, he served a tour of duty in Germany for the Army Medical Corps in 1961 and 1962. Returning to the University of Pittsburgh, he completed a residency in internal medicine and served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in hematology in 1965. Edward was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Beaver and served on the parish council. Although he was offered an academic career in medicine, he desired to serve in a community hospital, and he left Pittsburgh to join Dr. Thomas McCreary III. They were part of a small group of physicians and community leaders who encouraged the communities of Beaver County to pool resources and combine several smaller community hospitals to form The Medical Center. Together, they established Medical Oncology Clinics at both the Aliquippa Hospital and Heritage Valley Beaver, known then as the Medical Center of Beaver County. He was instrumental in bringing the Home Health Nursing Associations from Aliquippa, Beaver Valley and Sewickley to organize and establish a Hospice program for which he also served as the medical director. He was also founding director of the Beaver County Red Cross Blood Program. He served his colleagues as president of the Medical Center and chairman of the Department of Medicine. He also served as president of the Beaver County
Heart Association and the Beaver County Medical Society. He was recognized by the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine as their laureate for 2001. His patients sought not only his medical expertise, but the caring manner in which it was applied. He felt it his duty not only to apply state of the art medical care, but equally important, to do his part to ease the burden of another human being. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn, who died in childhood, another sister, Alice Paz; and a brother, Robert A. Heinle, M.D. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his brother, Norbert P. Heinle, DMD; two daughters, Patricia Hoover, Esq., of Beaver, and Anne and Jeff Ingros, of Beaver; and four sons, Dr. Edward W. and Patricia Heinle, of Danville, Dr. Michael S. and Dawn Heinle, of Cranberry, Glenn H. and Debbie Heinle, of Silver Springs, Md., and Drs. Robert A. and Rachel Heinle, of Wilmington, Del.; and 25 grandchildren. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME INC., 333 Third St., Beaver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul by his pastor, Father Robert Miller. Interment will follow at the Beaver Cemetery.
