Ethel B. Holmes

Ethel B. (Bossert) Holmes, 91, of Washington Township, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, in her home. Born May 16, 1930, in Oakmont, she was a daughter of the late James Melvin Bossert and Jeanne (Kennedy) Bossert. Ethel was a 1948 graduate of Plum High School and lived in Washington Township for her entire married life. She was the owner of Ethel's Bible Center, where she sold Bibles at cost. Ethel was a member of the Lower Burrell Garden Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Gideons. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, reading and sewing. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Norman Bossert; and a great-granddaughter, Cassandra. Ethel is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Walter K. Holmes Sr.; children, W. Kenneth (Susan) Holmes Jr., of Sarver, Jeffrey A. (Joyce) Holmes, of Murrysville, Brian L. (Carol) Holmes, of Lower Burrell, Susan J. (Joseph Dutton) Holmes, of Greensburg, Peggy L. Holmes, of Murrysville, and J. Howard Holmes, of Murrysville; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda), Benton, Brett, Drew (Lynn), Shawn, Jenelle, Lindsay (Paul) Hoke, T.J. Lennox, Jennifer (Jeremia) Feyrer, Jay (MacKenzie) and Kathleen; 15 great-grandchildren; and surrounded by extended family and terrific friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Mesick officiating. Interment will be in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough.
