Eugene Tokarek Obituary

Eugene John "Gene" Tokarek, 78, passed away on Oct. 2, 2025, in Summerfield, FL. Born on Aug. 5, 1947, in West Leechburg, he was a respected member of his community and a beloved figure among family and friends. Gene graduated from Leechburg Area High School in 1965 and went on to serve proudly in the US Navy for three years, embodying the values of dedication and service. After his military tenure, he embarked on a career with Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge, where he worked until his retirement. In 2004, Gene relocated to Florida with the love of his life, Bonny, where he became very active in his community, engaging with his neighbors and participating in various local activities, especially softball, that enriched his life. Gene is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Bonny Bertetto Tokarek; his son, Paul John Tokarek, and wife, Desiree; grandchildren, Cody and Bailey Tokarek; stepdaughter, Rebecca Maida, and her husband, Gennaro; sister, Pamela Martens, and her husband, Robert; niece and goddaughter, Heather Evans, and her husband, David; nephew, Chad Martens, and his wife, Katelynn; and great-nephew and -niece, William and QuinnLyn Evans. He was preceded in death by his father, John Tokarek, in 1978; and his mother, Stephanie Tokarek, in 2004. Gene's life was marked by his steadfast love for his family, his commitment to his country, and his active participation in his community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date.
