Ewald Bittcher Obituary

Ewald Emil "Dutch" Bittcher, 91, of Arnold, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in Saxony Health Center in Saxonburg, where he resided for the past five years. Ewald was born Oct. 16, 1921, in New Kensington, but lived his entire life in Arnold. He served as a corporal in the Army during World War II, where he received the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, Ewald worked for Alcoa as a press operator, where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. After retiring from Alcoa, he then started his second career at Allegheny Valley Hospital as a security guard before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed walking and gardening - but especially enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Ermelinda Mansueto Bittcher, to whom he was married to for 58 years; and three sons, Mark (Felicia) Bittcher, Michael (Sandy) Bittcher and Eric (Janine) Bittcher, all of New Kensington. Ewald is also survived by two brothers, Albert Bittcher, of Pittsburgh, Leo Bittcher, of Fox Chapel; and his sister, Mae McGiever, of West Mifflin. He was preceded in death by a son in infancy; and his parents, Leo and Bertha (Schmidt) Bittcher. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Saxony Health Center for their care and kindness to "Dutch" during his time there. As per Ewald's request, funeral and burial services will be private at CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724- 337-3325. In lieu of flowers, donations can made in memory of Ewald to the animal shelter, "Orphans of the Storm," P.O. Box 838, Route 85 East, Kittanning, PA 16201.
