Herbert Wolfe Obituary

Herbert George Wolfe, 91, of Freeport, loving husband of the late Jeanne Carol Fuhrman Wolfe, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va., following a brief period of declining health. Born Nov. 1, 1925, he was a native of Natrona, a son of the late Robert H. and Elizabeth D. (Rettig) Wolfe. He attended Har-Brack High School until the 9th grade and then went to work at Penn Salt. Herb was a proud veteran of the Navy, having served his country during World War II on the USS Dobbin as a Gunners Mate 3rd class, and was always reminding those that knew him, "Join the Navy, you can't go wrong". Following the war, he was employed by Union Spring and Manufacturing Company in New Kensington until the plant shut down in 1988, and being one of three people last to leave, he tossed his work boots over the power lines and said goodbye. Herb met his bride in 1958 while she was working at Girardi's grocery store in Freeport. They fell in love and married in 1959. Then the Wolfe Pack came along, all seven boys, with the last two being "the twins". They even made the newspaper with the headline "7 Come 11". Herb is survived by his seven boys, Charles R. (Patricia) Wolfe, George H. (Jackie) Wolfe, Kevin P. (Terri) Wolfe, Steven J. (Nadine) Wolfe, Shawn M. (Pam) Wolfe, Kurt A. (Dena) Wolfe and Keith F. (Debbie) Wolfe, with whom he made his home with for the past several years; "Pap" to 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; and Uncle Herbie to numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife and parents, Herb was preceded in death by one brother, Charles S. Wolfe; one sister, Viola M. (Wolfe) Pugliese; and two grandsons, Kevin Tyler Wolfe and Troy Michael Wolfe. Herb, Dad, Pap and friend to many, lived a life that was full. Regrets, yeah he had a few, but then again, they were too few to mention. He did what he had to do to raise his family, and he saw it through without exception. He loved, laughed and cried, but through the years those tears would subside. He said to folks what he truly feels, and in the end, he faced the final curtain. To think that dad did all that, and we say that not in a shy way, but we all find it so amusing, that Herbie truly did it his way.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., in Freeport. Everyone is pleased asked to meet at St. Mary Mother of God Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, in Freeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Ronald Maquinana officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Freeport.
