Irene Sutorka Obituary

Irene Ann (Kubican) Sutorka, 88, a lifelong resident of Creighton, East Deer Township, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Creighton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Brem) Kubican. She worked as a baker in the cafeterias for the Deer Lakes School District. She was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Creighton, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Tarentum Court. Irene was a past president and member of the East Deer Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the National Slovak Society, Pittsburgh. She enjoyed crocheting and ceramics and was a member of a local craft group. Survivors include her son, George (Brenda) Sutorka, of Mineral, Va.; three daughters, Julia (Bill) Harrell, of Frazer Township, Irene (Ed) McManic, of Trussville, Ala., and Darlene Langbein, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Julius (Betty) Kubican, of Frazer Township. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George M. Sutorka, Feb. 28, 1976; and a brother, Joseph Kubican. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, where parting prayers will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by Christian Funeral Mass at 9:15 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 787 Freeport Road, Creighton. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township. Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Friday by the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 849, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the East Deer Township Volunteer Hose Company, PO Box 303, Creighton, PA 15030.
