John Bash Obituary

John L. Bash, 78, of Chippewa Township, formerly of New Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025. John was born on Dec. 30, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Lysle and Mary Jean (Seanor) Bash. John is survived by his beloved spouse of 53 years, Amy (Richey); three children, Lee (Heather Mildner) Bash, Bronwen (Joel) Kimball, and Gordon (Kaitlin Wolfberg) Bash; three grandchildren, Hunter, Spencer, and Astrid Bash; a brother, Ross (Christiann) Bash; two nieces, Sarah (Justin) Hough, Elizabeth "Libby" Messer; and a nephew, Nathan (Alexandra) Bash. John exemplified his philosophy of being a 'jack of all trades, master of none.' He was a Stanford graduate with a degree from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary who was as comfortable selling tractor parts, where he began and ended his career, as he was providing 'sincere service with financial fairness' to hundreds of families who needed funeral services in the Delmont/Salem/Murrysville area. John always tried to help others, whether as a director of the Bash Funeral Home for 15 years, as an English teacher at the Greensburg/Salem High School, as a director/camp counselor at Sequanota and Pine Springs, or as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. With all of these accomplishments, the thing John was proudest of was his children. He supported and encouraged them in as many ways as he could, watching them share math knowledge as a tutor, absorb German language and culture as an exchange student, and launch a professional career as a musician. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the BASH-NIED-JOBE FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381), where a service will conclude the Wednesday, April 2, 2025, visitation. Interment will be private. With John's love of reading, the family kindly suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delmont Library, 75 School St., Delmont, PA 15626/online giving www.delmontlibrary.org, or to a library of your choice. online condolences may be made at www.BashNiedJobeFuneralHome.com.

As I write this I am sitting in the dining room at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where I spent many interesting hours with John. He was then an intellect of great curiosity and opinion. Being a bit older he quickly became a mentor and a dear friend. I´m so sorry, Amy, about John´s passing and sorrier still that we haven´t had contact for a number of years. But I remember with great fondness the frequent gathering we celebrated when our children were young. Please receive my blessing and my love. Please reach out to me whenever I made be of support. Love, Don

I graduated from High School with John and actually attended a party one time at John's home. He was such a nice person, and fun and so very smart. You have my most sincere condolences.

John and I were from Delmont and were classmates from 1st to 12th grade. We were in gifted classes together and in high school did a science project together that won 1st place. My uncle Dan Carr was a close friend of John's father Lysle so we have much history. John was super smart. Fondly,
