Kenneth Hoover

Kenneth "Ace" Hoover, 80, of Vandergrift, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills. Born May 18, 1944, in Indiana, he was the son of the late Ward and Mary Helen Maurey Hoover. Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam Era; he had been employed by U.S. Steel for 20 years and then Alcoa Research Center for 20 years prior to retiring in 2005 after 40 years of employment. A member of the Vandergrift Presbyterian Church, where he had been active with the Youth Club, he had coached Little League baseball and basketball teams in the area for his kids. A member of the Spring Church Sportsman's Club, he enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Karen Kovalcik Hoover of Vandergrift. Two sons, Aaron (Nicole) Hoover of Peters Township and Kenny (Brandie) Hoover of Randolph, OH. Three grandchildren, Meagan (Colton) Saal, Matthew (Jessica) Hoover, and Jacob "Peter Rodie" Hoover. Two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Audrey Saal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard "Dick" Hoover; and two sisters, Betty Maskrey and Shirley Stephenson. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, with his Pastor Brian Ralston, officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. The Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will accord full military honors.
