Markel DiMaio

1935 - 2025

Markel "Sonny" DiMaio, 89, of Lower Burrell, PA, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025. He was born in Markel, PA, on Aug. 30, 1935, to the late Louie and Jennie (Rapp) DiMaio. Sonny was the beloved husband of his late wife, Patricia (1994), and is survived by his current wife, Arleen DiMaio. Sonny was a loving father to Mark (Bobbi) DiMaio and Tim DiMaio; and stepfather to Mark Giger, Troy (Alex) Calabrese, and the late Scott Giger. He cherished his role as grandfather to Heather (fiance, Mike Shaw) DiMaio, Alicia and Michael Alexiades, and Alyssa and Carson Calabrese. Sonny was also a brother to Theresa Hunter and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. In his free time, Sonny enjoyed playing golf, working on cars, and tackling various projects around the house. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and could often be found grilling something delicious for family and friends. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4 to 8 p.m., on Monday, at RJ SLATER IV FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1000 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A blessing service will be held at 12 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home, followed by internment at Greenwood Memorial Park.
