Reed Henry Obituary

Reed E. Henry, 94, of DuBois, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at his home. He was born March 22, 1916, in Josephine, son of the late Charles E. and Ethel B. (Reed) Henry. Mr. Henry was employed as a laborer for Alcoa in New Kensington, retiring in 1972 after 33 years of service. He was especially proud of having built his own home. He could fix anything and enjoyed watching birds. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a medical technician corporal in the Pacific Theater of Operations in the Army Air Corps. He married Mildred Nehrig June 29, 1940, in DuBois. She preceded him in death in February 1969. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Nehrig, of Homer City, and Gaynelle Allison, of Reynoldsville. He is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Robert) Wright, of Niles, Mich., and Carol (Dennis) Hiles, of DuBois; five grandchildren, Kristine Sims, of St. Joseph, Mich., Karen Scales, of Waukesha, Wis., Jamie Cockerel, of Otsego, Mich., Joshua Hiles, of DuBois, and Mariah Shaffer, of Brockway; three great-grandchildren, and one due in June. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Indiana, Pa., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Pastor Katie Ward Stear. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, Pa. Burial service will be private. Arrangements by BERNARD P. SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Reynoldsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DRMC Hospice.
