Richard M. "Dick" Potter, 96, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025. He was born June 15, 1929, in Brackenridge to the late Harry P. and Clara (Stull) Potter. Dick lived his early life in Schenley and spent the last 65 years in Lower Burrell. Dick graduated from Leechburg High School in 1947 and graduated from Robert Morris Business School with a degree in accounting in 1958. He was employed at Allegheny Technologies Inc. and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953, spending 16 months in Japan. Dick was a strong man of faith and is now at home with his Lord and Savior. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Tarentum, where he served as treasurer, financial secretary, deacon, moderator, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 31 years, well into his 90s. Dick enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, sports, and visits with family and friends. Survivors include his daughter, Valerie Potter; and grandchildren, Korbin, Drennan, and Stevieanne. Also surviving are his brother, James Potter, of Oakmont; sister, Sally Trefelner, of St. John, IN; his dear friend, Mary Walker; and nephew, Jeff Potter, who loved and helped care for him. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (Roberts) Potter; his son, Steven D. Potter; and seven siblings, Harry "Mutch" Potter, June Dellinger, William and Robert Potter, Nancy Kerner, Patricia Berta, and Donald Potter. Visitation from 2 until the time of service at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, in DUSTER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, 724-24-1526, with his nephew, Rev. Jeffrey Potter, and Rev. Kenneth Thompson officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches.
