Richard Shoaf Obituary

Richard Westley "Bud" Shoaf Sr., of Columbia, S.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 7, 1924, in Greensburg, he was the son of the late Alfred and Hazel McLveen Shoaf. Mr. Shoaf lived most of his life in Sarver, where he attended Sarver Free Methodist Church. He moved to Columbia after his retirement and attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Germany and France. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel in 1983 following 41 years of service. Mr. Shoaf, affectionately known as "Pap-Pap", was devoted to his family, not just his immediate family, but his extended family as well. He was a builder and "Jack of All Trades" and lovingly built houses for his children. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and wood crafting. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Maggie Sikes Shoaf; children, Delores (Bill) Ballentine, Cathy (Dave) Druschel and Donald (Sharon) Shoaf; daughters-in-law, Coleen Shoaf Bennett and Rhoda Shoaf; and stepbrother, Bobby (Diane) Grant. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Shoaf Jr. and Jeffery Shoaf; four brothers, Alfred Shoaf, Charles Shoaf, Eddie Grant and Bill Grant; three sisters, Katherine "Kay" Prince, Pauline Kirkland and Mary Lou Schmidt. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at DUNBAR FUNERAL HOME, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, S.C. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at FOX FUNERAL HOME in Saxonburg, where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 8382 Baymeadows Road, Suite 9, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
