Robert Shamberger III

Robert G. Shamberger III Kiski Township Robert G. "Herbie" Shamberger III, 63, of Kiski Township, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Butler. Born Jan. 28, 1949, in Natrona Heights, he was the son of the late Robert G. Shamberger Jr. and Dorothy (Shupe) Shamberger. Herbie lived in Kiski Township all of his life and served our country with the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a 1967 graduate of Elders Ridge High School. Herbie worked as a lineman/office manager for Altell Communications in Kittanning for several years, retiring in 2004. Herbie was a member of the Fort Hand Rifle Club and the Apollo/Spring Church Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed working on his cars, fishing, hunting and especially loved Mud Bogging at Shorty's Hollow in Girty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. (Copeland) Shamberger, who passed away in 2003; and a sister, Donna Shamberger, who passed away in 1959. Herbie is survived by his brothers, Randy L. (Theresa) Shamberger, of Kittanning, and James E. Shamberger, of Winchester, Va.; sisters, Linda L. Knepshield, of Apollo, and Peggy L. Shaffer, of Spring Church; five nephews, Brian (Stacy) and Lee Knepshield and Randy M., Josh and Jacob Shamberger; and his beloved dog, Brandi. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Curran-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional visitation from 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, until a celebration of life tribute service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with military honors provided by the Armstrong County Honor Guard.
