Steve Tandaric

1923 - 2016

Steve "Jab" Tandaric, 93, of Cabot, formerly Washington, Pa., passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at Concordia, in Cabot. He was born April 2, 1923, in Tinsmill, the son of the late Peter and Luby Severinac Tandarick. Jab is a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore, the VFW Post 7901, PNA 1234, Loyal Order of Moose No. 37, and the Francesco Ferrera Lodge No. 190, also in Avonmore. He also belonged to the Slickville American Legion Post 18, and the Elks Lodge No. 776 and the Arms Club in Washington. He graduated in 1940 from Bell High School, and later attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his Bachelor's degree. Before his retirement in 1985, he was employed by the Department of Welfare as a caseworker for more than 22 years. Jab was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater as a Sergeant with the 36th Division. He received many commendations in the service, including the World War I victory medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead for the invasion of Southern France. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, music and serenading everyone with his singing. He married the love of his life, the late Elsa Bottegal Tandaric, on Jan. 28, 1961. He is survived by a brother, Frank Tandaric, of Avonmore; a sister, Ann Giaccardo, of Apollo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Joseph and Peter Tandaric; and a sister, Luby Dunmire.
Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016, in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. in St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Avonmore. Father Salvatore Lamendola will be celebrant. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Avonmore.
