Steven Stanko Obituary

Steven E. Stanko, 88, of Oakmont, formerly of Arnold, died Monday (March 4, 2002) in Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont.

Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Fayette City, he lived in the Valley all his life. A World War II veteran, he served with the Army. He was a glassworker with American St. Gobain Glass Co., Arnold, for 40 years. He enjoyed watching football and baseball. Mr. Stanko was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. Survivors include a son, David J. Stanko of Blawnox; a daughter, Mrs. Holly (John) Bray of Accident, Md.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Stanko of Florida; and two sisters, Mary Matviko of New Kensington and Margaret Grabek of Lower Burrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yarcy Maduk Stanko; his parents, Andrew and Mary Sirocki Stanko; and three brothers, John, Vincent and Andrew Stanko. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, where a blessing service will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Christian Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, New Kensington. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Joint Veterans Group, will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold.
