Thomas Roy Wissinger, 74, of Lower Burrell, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Harrison Township, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Arnold, a son of the late Mildred Stennett, who passed away when Tom was five years old. He was then raised by his grandmother, Rhoda Stennett. He then worked as a machinist for Shoop Bronze in Tarentum for 10 years, then worked as a club stewart for the former Lower Burrell 3 Firemen's Club for 20 years. He was a veteran of Marine Corps and a life member of the American Legion Post 868, Lower Burrell. Tom loved going with all his family and friends to Cook's Forest. In addition to his mother and grandmother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Hanyo Wissinger, of Lower Burrell; son, James Wissinger, of Lower Burrell; brother-in-law, Dan Johnson, of Tulsa, Okla.; also survived by numerous cousins. As per Tom's wishes, there will be no public viewing. The family would like to invited family and friends to be received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, a service oriented funeral home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. The American Legion Post 868, Lower Burrell, will conduct a service at 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home, followed by a memorial service to celebrated Tom's life at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in loving memory of Tom to the American Lung Association, 810 River Ave., Suite 140, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
