William P. Gatto

1938 - 2025

William Paul "Sonny" Gatto, 86, of Leechburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Concordia at Cabot. A son of the late Angelo Gatto and Dorothy (Spencer) Gatto, he was born on Aug. 21, 1938, in Vandergrift. William received a full scholarship to attend West Virginia University and play football after high school. He had been employed as a high school physical education and biology teacher by the Kiski Area School District for over 30 years before retiring in 1992. He was a former member of St. Catherine Roman Catholic Church in Leechburg. William attended all of his daughters' softball games, especially being there when their team won the state championship in 1992. He loved spending time at his camp in Kellettville, vacationing in Williamsburg, VA, and snowmobiling around the Allegheny National Forest. He enjoyed hobbies of rifle hunting, reloading his rifles, trout fishing, and pan fishing. Survivors include his daughter, Holly Grisolia (Anthony) of West Leechburg; a son, Jeffrey Paul Gatto; and a grandson, Joshua Paul Gatto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carol Ann (McTigue) Gatto, in 2019; and a sister, Delores Mazurek.
