ALBERT SULLIVAN Jr.

Albert D. Sullivan, Jr., DC Dr. Albert Sullivan passed away on June 23, 2014. Dr. Al was born on March 15, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston College and Palmer College of Chiropractic. He also served in the Air National Guard. He and Madeleine, his wife of 55 years, moved to Washington State in 1960. He was a University Place fixture, living in the Sunset Beach community and establishing his chiropractic practice, first on 27th Street and after 1970, on Bridgeport Way. He was a leader in his profession. Among his positions: Washington Chiropractors Assn. Board of Directors, Washington State Chiropractic Disciplinary Board, and Washington State Delegate to the American Chiropractic Assn. He was also proud to have led the campaign to bring a branch of the Pierce County Library to University Place. He interviewed and hired the first librarian, Mrs. Culver. He leaves behind his wife, Madeleine; son, Brian of Barrow, Alaska; daughter, Maura Sullivan of Bellevue; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Terence of Marion, Mass., and Gerard of Plymouth, Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Eleanor Mulrey Sullivan; and brother, Joseph Sullivan. Dr. Al was an avid boater. He and the family spent many happy times aboard their diesel trawler, the Sea Fever. He and Madeleine have been parishioners at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church since the church's infancy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Charles Borromeo Scholarship Fund, Bellarmine Preparatory Scholarship Fund, or Group Health Hospice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located at 7112 S. 12th Street, Tacoma. Inurnment at New Tacoma Cemetery.
