It is with heavy hearts that we share that Allison Joe Bayba's light no longer shines in this world. She was taken suddenly from us by a heart attack on September 8, 2025, leaving us far too soon at the age of 67.
Allison's life was dedicated to caring for others. She received her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and spent her entire career working with individuals with developmental disabilities. The last 24 years of her career were spent at the Habilitative Mental Health Treatment Program (HMH) at Western State Hospital. Allison possessed an unrivaled love, empathy, and a special patience and tenderness with her patients. Her family would often hear stories of patients eagerly coming to sing her songs, share their jokes, or chat with her while they picked out a piece of candy. Her impact on the HMH program will be felt for many years, and she will be deeply missed by her patients and colleagues.
In honor of her dedication, a vegetable garden will be created on the hospital grounds, a living tribute to Allison's love of watching her patients grow and her cultivation of the rehabilitative aspects of the program.
Allison was treasured by all who knew her. She had a unique ability to connect with anyone she met, to fill every space she entered with joy, and to meet people exactly where they were-with no expectations, only love. Her laughter was infectious. She loved her family fiercely, and her family adored her in return. Generous with her money, her time, and her love, Allison gave freely of herself to everyone. She found joy in the ocean, road trips, reading-she devoured countless books, old television shows, chocolate, and shopping trips with her granddaughter.
Allison is predeceased by her father, Harry Joseph Bayba. She is survived by her mother, Bobbie Jean Bayba; her sisters, Anna Jean Phaire (Bayba) and Bobbie Jane Castro (Bayba); her brother, Edwin Stewart Bayba; her beloved children, Brenna Pink Pampena, Jared Michael Pink, and Aaron Joseph Pink; her cherished grandchildren, Rocco Stephen Pampena, Liam Chapman, Henry Chapman-Pink, and Cadence Allise Pampena; her son-in-law, Matthew Pampena; her daughter-in-law, Emily Pink; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and colleagues who will treasure her memory always.
A Celebration of Allison's beautiful life will be held on November 8, 2025, at the Pagoda at Point Defiance Park from 1:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a GoFundMe created by the family to raise funds for a memorial bench at Fort Steilacoom Park in Pierce County, across from Western State Hospital.
