CJ's light still shines in all the smiles and love he shared with everyone. I know him from the restaurant and remember being greeted by him with a smile that would light up the room. May his light shine forever in the hearts of all who know and love him.

I knew CJ, and his brother Surinder, at TCC back in '90-'91. He was unfailingly kind, and I considered him one of my good friends. I only just learned of his passing...I'm trying not to cry when I type this out. I so regret not having reconnected with him. My deepest condolences to his entire family.

There were lots of people who wanted to attend CJ's memorial but couldn't make it for various reasons. We attached a GoPro to a pew and let it record it as it happened. I apologize that the audio is sometimes very difficult to hear and there's quite a bit of background noise. Regardless, I hope it will give you the opportunity to share in the love and support we experienced that night.
I've shared it on Google Drive here:

Every time I went to the restaurant, CJ remembered what my favorite dish was....even if it had been a year since I was last in. I moved to CA several years ago, but whenever I was in WA, I would stop by for a meal....I have never been so touched by someone as I was by CJ. My youngest son now lives in NY and I called to tell him about CJ. His response was incredible sadness. He said "he was so sweet mom"......I have been dedicating each of my yoga sessions to this lovely man ever since I heard of his passing. I am so sorry. My heart goes out to his entire family and please know, we are all keeping you in our hearts during this very difficult time.

Charlie and I have know CJ and Surinder for over a decade and we have enjoyed so many delicious meals at their store over the years. Gateway has been one of our favorite Tacoma 'mom and pop shops' and we are deeply saddened by the loss of CJ Singh.
I will miss seeing CJ's smiling face each week at the 6th Ave farmers market. He was there selling his delicious mango lassi and spicy Indian foods, perfect flavors for both our rainy NW winters and warm summers.
To his family please know you are in our hearts and that CJ will be sorely missed.
To Surinder, please let us know how we can help.
