Dear Family and Friends of my cousin, Leroy. As a child I remember him as the older, cool guy. Years later I remember being with my dad, "Little Sammy" at the hospital in Spokane and seeing Scott and his wife and new little girl who was in newborn ICU. We pray God's blessing on all of you during this time.

Leroy was a very wonderful special cousin who always had law enforcement on his mind. He wanted to share that with whoever he could. He was very near and dear to all of us!! We as the Johnson family would like you to know that we have donated to the Aina & V.E. Johnson Scholarship Fund at Midland Lutheran College in Leroy's name. May God Surround you and your families at this time!! May you take comfort in knowing that he is now with our Heavenly Father!

It is with shock and sadness that I write. I am reminded of the song we sang at Luther College. He always called me "ma." I can still hear him calling across the campus to me, "Hey Ma" I also remember the day we spent together as cousins at a lake where he so kindly rowed the boat down the river we the two of us singing this song together.

"If I have wounded any soul today, If I have caused one foot to go astray, If I have walked in my own willful way, dear Lord forgive.

If I have uttered idle words or vain, If I have turned aside from want or pain, lest I offend some other through the strain, dear Lord forgive.

If I have been perverse or hard or cold, If I have longed for shelter in the fold. When you have given me some for to hold, dear Lord forgive.

Forgive the sins I have confessed to you, forgive the secret sins I do not view, on, guide me, love me and my keeper be, Amen, Amen."

My memories of Leroy are very good. Good and faithful servant.

I was sorry to hear about Sam's passing. I attended Fort Steilacoom during 73-74, and the Central Washington extension program at Ft. Lewis after that. Sam instructed the very first class I ever had at college. I was privileged to have many more classes with him at both campuses. Please accept my condolences at the loss of a great man. His dedication and passion to instruction influenced many people who went into Law Enforcement and related fields.

My condoleces to Sam's family on your loss. I was a student at Fort Steilacoom from 75-77 and really enjoyed Sam as an instructor and as a person. I have been with the Seattle Police Dept. for 27 years. I still think of my time in the law enforcement program there as some of the best times in my life. I learned more there because of the real life experience of Sam and the other instructors, it was great.
