Douglas Thompson

Douglas J Thompson, age 63, passed away in Tacoma, WA on September 21, 2025. Doug was the fourth child born to John (Army Veteran) and Willena (Teacher) Thompson in Monterey CA on April 8, 1962. Doug was preceded in death by beloved siblings brother Gene and sister Renee Thompson.



Doug will be truly missed and well loved by family and friends. He is survived by loving sisters Wanda and Margot Thompson, nieces Adrienne, Tayleur, great niece Leilani, great nephews Kekoa and Keahilani, cousins in Florida and New Jersey, and brother-in-law Tobias Benton and his fiancée Veronica Munyan.

Doug attended St. Leo's Grade school, graduated from Bellarmine Prep HS and attended Seattle U, CWU, and TAFT College.



He was a talented athlete who loved all sports, especially basketball and was inspired by his legends, Spencer Haywood, Michael Jordan, and huge fan of Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry. He was devoted to improving his skills every day and became a basketball star in high school and college. Doug received numerous awards recognizing his basketball prowess, including All State, All Tournament, All City and broke Seattle U record for most points scored, previously held by Elgin Baylor.



Doug enjoyed summer youth coaching and recently worked for the Tacoma Rainiers Club. He said, "one of the best parts with Rainiers was seeing all the little awestruck kids show up to watch baseball at Cheney Field."



Doug's friendly spirit, smile, and his love for family and friends will be sorely missed by all who knew him.



Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo's Church on Thursday, Oct. 16th at 12:10 pm, followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery, to follow with his Celebration of Life.
