Douglas Weaver Obituary

Douglas Hedric Weaver
1963 ~ 2014
Doug Weaver passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was born in New York City on May 24, 1963 to Dr. Dean H. Weaver and Barbara Castleton. Doug was raised in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Highland High School in 1980. Doug served an LDS mission in Los Angeles, California. He received his BS from the University of Utah where he was affiliated with Beta Theta Pi. In 1989 he married Wendy Carrigan in the Salt Lake Temple (later divorced). Doug attended the University of Utah School of Law where he received his JD in 1992. Doug and his family moved to Reno, Nevada where he worked as a prosecutor in the District Attorney's office until 1997 when he returned to Salt Lake City and continued to practice law in juvenile criminal defense. Doug was especially gifted in working with youth.
Doug loved his children. He spoke of Douglas, Justin and Michelle tenderly. He often expressed how proud he was of his "good kids" and their accomplishments. To his nieces and nephews he was the epitome of the fun uncle. On family trips to Bear Lake, he was always organizing activities, planning every day with hikes, ping pong tournaments and target shooting. One was never bored when Doug was around. He was an original, a unique individual. His personality was infectious and everyone loved to be with him. Doug had his own brand of humor. A close friend described it as "ingeniously witty and fall down laughing, irreverently funny." Doug also expressed his humor through his innate ability to draw, especially caricature and political commentary. He made each person feel important, engaging them with personal questions that would spark interesting conversation. Doug loved our beautiful Utah mountains and was an avid hiker and adventurer. He had no fear and often went alone on these adventures leaving us asking the question, "Has anyone heard from Doug?" Doug loved history and traveling to historical sites in America and abroad, especially battlefields. He was an avid reader, often reading several books simultaneously. Doug was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel. "We love you and will miss you every day."
Doug is survived by his children, Douglas, Justin and Michelle; his mother Barbara Castleton; seven brothers and sisters, Dean C. Weaver, Patrick Q. Weaver, Sarah W. Fitzpatrick (Doug), Edward H. Weaver (Janaan), Michael Reed (Marianne), Kristen Wight (Chris), Rebecca Croft (David); mother, Suzanne Weaver and 19 adored nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Eva W. and H. Jay Layton. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Dean H. Weaver.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Olympus Hills Ward, 4176 Adonis Drive, SLC. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday, May 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple and from 10:30 to 11:30a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

To The Weaver Family: You have my Deepest Sympathy and condolences at the loss of your son, brother, and father. May the Lord watch over you and be with you in your time of mourning. Heavenly Father Loves you and will be watching over you at this hard time in your lives. Doug had a great personality and a wonderful Smile. And he was loved by his family and friends that knew him. He will be deeply missed by those of his family and friends. I will miss Doug a lot. I have a lot of great memories of Doug. Some of the memories I have of Doug are back in High School my Senior Year in 1980 at Highland High when Doug was a Junior I went to the Highland Football Games and cheered him and the Football team on. Those were great memories I had of him in High School. He would always say Hi to me and was always nice to me. But after I graduated from High School what I remember about Doug was when he was a Lawyer and was downtown at the Court House and I saw him dressed in a Suit and he looked so handsome and he saw me and he still remembered me. And also I am a Cashier at the Murray Walmart and when Doug came into Walmart he was always nice to me and said Hi to me. I will miss his friendship on Facebook and at Walmart. I will miss him and his friendship so very much. He was a great friend.

Love,

Amy Wiscomb Moth Iversen Highland High Class of 1980.

So incredibly sad. Such a great loss of one of the most unique, uncompromising, brilliant, irreverent, hilarious, sweet, thoughtful, loyal friends I have ever had the good fortune to know. So many great memories. He permanently changed my vocabulary and how I look at life. I wish there were more Doug Weavers in the world, but, sadly, there will always only be one. We will miss you Doug.

I miss you bro.
I want to invite those interested (e.g. high school and college friends) to an informal open house style of gathering at my place after the viewing tonight. I live just up the road from Larkin at 551 E. 11th Ave.
I think it is fitting that we respectfully eulogize your energetic, enigmatic and humor-rich life in a more robust fashion.
You left us too soon, a call to all of us to reach out and embrace those we love, and have loved.
All are welcome. The odd pot-luck contribution is also welcome.
Peace

My condolences to his family. Doug has been a very important part of my life. His sense of humor always kept me laughing. I grew to love him, Douglas, Justin and Wendy too. Spent many hours hiking with Doug - one of the things he loved the most. He was always ready to get out in nature - didn't like sitting around. He loved to read many books at the same time as others have said. He was so smart and witty. He was there for me. My heart breaks.

We have so many fun, silly memories of our cousin as we grew up. One of my favorite is when he and my little brother Stuart (same age) were about 12 years old and the movie JAWS had just come out. They would see it over and over and had memorized the entire script. They snuck in a tape recorder and and taped the famous dun-dun dun-dun dun-dun shark attack music. They also scared themselves silly and wouldnt go swimming for ages. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed

Doug's classic response to most anything in our adolescent years was, "I'm so bored". Several high School instances come to mind when Doug was receiving a hallway tongue-lashing from school counselors Linford or Harwood for some amusing misdeed, to which Doug would simply cock his head to the side with shoulders slumped and respond, "I'm so bored". Bumping into him over the years, Doug was always very upbeat and engaging. An untimely and sad loss.

I knew if I was ever in a room with Doug, I would be laughing! He loved to read, usually more than one book at a time. He loved the outdoors, and I know he loved his beautiful children. We will miss him greatly! I appreciate the kindness he showed my family.
